Hello Pete,
I found Heinemann's birth (24.Feb.1874), but I have no information about his death.
I noticed in the family tree on your website that Bernhard (born July 16, 1879) is listed as the
son of Benedikt, but he is the son of Josef, see the registry office entry.
If I find something new in the archives, I'll send it to you. I would be interested in photos of
Benedikts family and their live in Fulda, if you have some other than those on your website.

Best regards
Horst

Information on Recha’s maiden name and birth came from The Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names
Her first name came from the letter written on the Post card with the photograph of the Shoe Shop.
Recha Hess nee Wollsheimer was born in 1876. Prior to WWII she lived in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Recha perished in Riga, Latvia. This information is based on a List of victims from Germany found in the Gedenkbuch - Opfer der Verfolgung der Juden unter der nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft in Deutschland 1933-1945, Bundesarchiv (German National Archives), Koblenz 1986.

Jeff-
Steffen must have left these translations with me when he finished up (I was in Alabama then). Anyway I just now saw them show up as we are slowly getting back to normal around here (well not really).
Anyway some big news- Steffen painstakingly deciphered and translated the old German Postcard. He has done the original German and the translation.
Lettering on the picture states:

Of Course Naftali is there if you blow it up-see attached.

Greetings and kisses from your brother. Muhlinum (?) is ...(?)...(?)Naftalie in Frankfurt.

Jeff- I think this is from Naftali- Grandma's brother. Recha might have been his new wife (not in our records). I've no guesses about who Muhlinum is/was.

Jeff- I have more but will send later.

214. Originally Isaac was believed to have died around 1880 -1881 since 2 grandsons were named Isaac in 1881 and 1882 and no death records could be located that would provide an accurate date.. However, document 4538 was found by a German researcher hired by Jeff which appointed guardians for Leopold and siblings on 31 of July 1866. So then it appeared he died by that date. But then it 2023 Ute Mehlhorn located the records -see ref 1589
215. “Death of Isaac Dreifuss Emmail from Ute Mehlhorn,” July 24, 2023.
Dear Pete,

I have just received an email from the Ortenau County Archive with a 1871 Altdorf death record for Isak Dreifuss (see attachment) which very much looks like the right one for your 3g-grandfather Isak Dreifuss!

On 20th of April 1871, Isak Gundelfinger (or Gundelsinger) appeared at the Altdorf civil registry office and reported the death of Isak Dreifuss in Altdorf on 20th of April 1871 (age 63 years / born in Altdorf). The death record states that he was a widower of ??? [difficult to read] nee Bernheimer and a legitimate son of Abraham Dreifuss and Duset Weil.

The age (1871 - 63 = 1808) matches as well as the last name of his deceased wife and the names of his parents!

Therefore I think it is safe to assume that this is indeed your Isak Dreifuss' death record!

The archivist did not find any further information on Isak Dreifuss - But at least now you have an answer for the question when and where Isak Dreifuss has died.

Best regards,

Ute

Note that Ute realized the the OSB and the Schmieheimcemetery book gave that date of death to Jakob Dreifuss and mark him as Ohne Grab 338. OG 338 is described as OSB ALTDORF 3961 for Jakob DREIFUSS, a tradesman, born around 1788, died April 20, 1871. Wife Recha nee Bernheim, Father Abraham Dreyfuss, cattle broker. Mother Dosel (Tusel) (dusette) nee Weil.

Rolf Mayer reading of the death certificate document, after translation with Google Translate gave the following:
On April 20, 1871, the unmarried Jsak Gundelfinger, a merchant, residing in Altdorf, appeared before the registrar of the municipality of Altdorf, who stated that he was a relative of the deceased, and declared that on the twentieth of April of the year one thousand eight hundred seventy and one in the morning eight o'clock in Altdorf had died: Jsak Dreifuss, born in Altdorf, resident in Altdorf, 63 years old, husband (widower) of Ricka née Bernheimer, legitimate son of Abraham Dreifuss and Duset née Bernheimer. Because, both resident at Altdorf.

After the lecture and approval, this document was signed by the person appeared, by the registrar and the clerk of the council.

On page 118 (BILD 118) of Altdorf, Ettenheim OG; Israelitische Gemeinde: Standesbuch 1810-1839 on the Internet I found wedding or Abraham to Sara Schweizer. I was first notified of the finding by Rolf Meyer Herrenmode.
The following German and English translation was provided by Rolf.
Significance of the finding was that the actual date of the wedding 6 June 1838 is different than that given in the Ortsippenbuch 14 Feb 1838. 14 Feb 1838 was the date permission for the wedding was granted and not the actual wedding date.

If you assume, possibly correctly, that the name should in fact be Gunzburger, then you must assume that the age at death was 81 and not 71. If he was 71 he would have been a young teenage father and many years younger than Rosa. Need to get death certificate.

230. “Altdorf Ortsippenbuch (Entry 3958).”
¨Altdorf OSB entry <3958> Is the family of Abraham Dreyfuß, a Nothändler born around 1747 and died 24 Jan 1821 who married Marianna Gundelfinger (year of marriage not given). Only 1 child is listed here- which is Jetla (Judith) <3963,4219>.
However, I have listed in this file other children Aron, Moses, Jakob, Sara which are not given in the OSB. I am pretty sure I obtained these records originally from Dad’s “blue book” where here wrote these records down bt hand. Jakob (married to Recha Bernheim) is given as the son of Abraham from the marriage to Dusette according to OSB Altdorf.

232. 14 September 2023, Rolf Mayer.
Rolf Mayer provided me a thumb drive on our trip to Germany containing the document, “Genealogie Dreifuss/Dreyfuss in Familienverbänden”. I added the english tranlations of each of his entries but kept the original in my electronic records as well.

I was able to add the date (25) and month (Feb) to the known year of death (1840) for Jettel Meyer, the wife of Jakob Dreifuss (the possible brother of Abraham Dreyfuss). This assumes that Hornung is old for of German for February.

I used the date in this record to change the death record of Aron Dreyfuss (Aaron Dreifuss) to 4 Nov 1848. This Aaron Dreifuss was the first son of Abraham Dreyfuss.

Peter
thanks for replying.
I do have pictures but the file would get even bigger.
Ive recently made contact with Dr Peter Stein in Basle
and Thekla Nordwind the grandchildren of Ludwig Stein.

Peter has been very helpful and sent me photocopies of some f the pictures
on the website of Maier & Kola Dreifuss.

As I said most of my information is about the Kahns of Offenburg, on my
mothers side and the Wolfbergs on my fathers.

I hope Ive not sent to much information.
As I say this is all new to me .
Do people just want what s pertinent to them, where do you stop?

I look forward to receiving your gedcom and filling in the holes.
Some of the information Ive already filled in from your Website.

Do you have pictures of Sophie Stein (1842 -1901)
or her parents Marx Wolf Stein(1817 -1879) or Helene Weil (1818-1898)
I have a picture of their grave in Offenburg.

The Weils, as Peter has informed me were a very famous rabbinical line.
Going back to the 1300s. Although some of the information seems slightly
unreliable. There's an article on Jewish Gen by Werner Frank I believe .
Let me know if you're interested and Ill forward the link.

In the meantime keep well and thanks again for putting all the information
on line.

Do let me know how you get on with the gedcom.
All the best

Jonny

241. Aron's birthday of January 1780 came from the records of Leonard Dreifuss. R. Finkle's had the birth date pinpointed to the ninth day of January. Abraham's bible inscription says 9 Schevat 5540, which is January 1780, but I'm not sure yet if that is January 9. Later Rafi translated the page fom Aaron’s prayerbook and translatedSunday 9 Shevat 5540 as 16 Jan 1780 Gregorian.
Aron's death was recorded by LLD as 5 Nov 1848 but RF lists it as 4 Nov 1848.
OSB gives birth as "um 1778" and death as 4 Nov 1848
Schmieheim Memor-Buch gives father as Awraham, birthdat as5 November 1848 and death as November 5, 1848

243. Birth 1898 Recollection for Sarah (verbal) of Joseph Spigelman on the places of birth during our trip to Paris and surroundings June 1999. But, I’m going with Sid’s written records Joseph gave Sid (see ref 442) many years earlier where he referred to her as Sister #1 and born around 1892. I am using ca 1893 since her parent were married late in 1892.
244. First, I obtained the marriage year from an EXCEL file for Zwolen- I have EXCEL file, obtained by contributing to JRI-P to obtain records. Groom Lejbus Waserman and bride Estera Ruchla Finkelsztajn. ACT-19 recorded on lines 2917 and 2918.

About 2 years later, (on Dec 11, 2004) I received the marriage record obtained from Radom (Archiwum Panstwowe w Radomiu) via JRI-P. It is written in Cyrillic and I cannot translate this yet. In margin it does have dates 1969 and 1871 which must be birth dates of bride and groom. Thie dates are new information.

Dec 14, 2004 I received the following unsigned translation (from dprice@sympatico.ca) of the document, by sending the jpeg file to Jewishgen’s ViewMate:
Dear Peter:
I translated the 3 Zwolen films for JRI. I am attaching what I typed if your computer can handle it. I hope you get more records from it.

5191,5192
marriage of Lejbus WASERMAN age 22 son of Rachmil and Lai FLJAJSZER to Estera Ruchlja FINKELSZTAJN age 20 daughter of the late Herszek and Chai

5193
birth of Jojzen PAL son of Szmul age 19 of the town Baranow and Ena? SZPERLING

Dec 15, 2004- I received the following:
Dear Peter,

I've tried labouring over the marriage document, and while it's difficult to read the words, I can at least confirm for you that this is in fact the marriage document of Lejbus Vaserman and Ester Ruchle Finkelshtajn.

The first line reads approximately:

Please sit down and join us, the eighteenth (thirtieth) of November, eighteen hundred ninety two, ten o’clock at night.

[The parenthesis probably indicated the Gregorian date, since Russia's Orthodox Church still to this day uses the Julian calendar, which before 1900, was off by 12 days from the Gregorian calendar and after 1900 was off by 13 days).

These are the first 4 lines of the document when you translate them.

After the first sentence, there are several mentions of Lejbus Vaserman and Ester Ruchle Finkelshtajn. The number twenty-something is mentioned once or twice... and whether this refers to their age, I'm not sure but can hypothesize that it does, but it's hard to tell without the context. Lejbus is mentioned along with 22 years. (It's possible he was born in December, if he was born in 1869).

As for the words on the side of the document, the only thing I can tell you for sure is that the word directly underneath the "(a)" and "(b)" is "born". Now, what the numbers before 1869 and 1871 are, I have no idea. And I also can't tell which year is referring to which person. Although, within the document, there is (a), and it is beside Lejbus' name, and a (b) that is near Ester's name. There is a likely connection.

The remainder is likely a dowry being listed, but I can't say for sure since I can neither read nor understand the other words.

I'm sorry that I couldn't provide much more information, but I am not a native Russian, I just happen to know how to read... not very well I may add. But I truly wish you luck in deciphering this document.

Warm Regards,

On Dec 17, 2004 Larry Brikman wrote again with the following:
Dear Peter,

You're right... I do feel good. :-)

But other than that, I went back to look at the marriage certificate, and finally started to understand the handwriting a bit. I got some more information for you.

Here's what it looks like approximately line by line:

1-4: Please sit down and join us, the eighteenth (thirtieth) of November, eighteen hundred ninety two, ten o’clock at night.

5: …position of Rabbi (of the)? synagogue Raphil Kerma…

6:

7: Lejbus Vaserman a bachelor who is twenty-

8: two years old (a) from the (station in life) of a

9: cattle-hide shoemaker [?] ...

10-11: we call the son of Rakhlmil [?] and Lai [Leah?] Golde nee Flyajsher [Fleisher] wived

12: Vaserman and Ester Rukhle Finkelshtajn

13: maiden of twenty years old from the (station in life) (b)

14: … we call upon the daughter of the late Gershek and the living

15: Chai nee Finkelstajn

16: wived Finkelshtajn...

17: ...witnesses[?] Haskel Kuperberg

18: sixty eight years old and Itska Abetba…a

19: sixty one years old

So, I can confirm the parents names, except for Lai Flyajsher because I finally realized what the word between Lai and Flyajsher was -- Golde.

And just an explanation of how I wrote this. Anything in [***] is my personal commentary. Gershek, is basically the same as Hershek... in Russian there is no 'h' sound except for the phlegm-like 'kh' as in Khannukah. In Hebrew, there are three 'h' sounds, so it had to be transliterated into Russian with a 'g'. If someone's last name was Hoffman, in Russian it would be spelt 'Goffman'.

As for the wording, wived was the best word I could come up with for 'married and took the surname of'. So in the case of your Chai Finkelshtajn, both her maiden name and husband's last name were the same. That very well could mean that they were cousins (which was far too often a customary practice in those days that the Rabbis smiled upon... if only they understood genetics)

All of my spelling for names is transliterated. The reason I spell the surname "Flyajsher" is because in Russian it is spelt: F-L-YA-J-SH-E-R. And her name is not Estera, it's Ester Ruchle, because that is how the name is conjugated within the sentence. Kind of like how we add " 's " to show possession, ie. Larry's, in Russian you add endings depending on how you use the name within a sentence.

So, I think that's all. I'll see what I can do about the bottom half, but I'm pretty sure there's no real valuable information down there. Out of curiousity, do you know what city they got married in?

All the best,

Larry Brikman

Original source of this information given to Sid is probably Joseph Sigelman. Data in this note is not always used in my records if other data is present and conflicts with this. I have taken the birth order here to be the most trusted since Josph was likely to know this better than dates. Dad’s notes appeared to have been added to later as earlier stuff is in pencil and later stuff is in pen.

This is very important for him due his son Benyamin Drosman will get married and need to be close to this part of family.
When Benyamin Doresman ( Drosman died, Yehushua was only 4 years old).

Thank you in advance for your attention.

Faithfully yours,

Lea.

Good Morning Pete,

Following your informations, so I am almost sure that we are from the same family due they were in relation long time ago with Olga Wassermann who married with Sam Habib, and came also from Warsaw in Poland.

What I have understood from him that one Drosman got married with one Wasserman.
If those elements could help you, note that Yehushua Drosman got married with Rivka Dagnut and have 3 chidren: Hagit (who got married with Ron 10 years ago - I will confirm you her new family name later), Benyamin (whith whom I will get married on February, 14th, 2007) and Sarah (Sarit).

This family leaves in Israel, in Kfar Saba.

I currently transmit all these informations to my family in law.

Rivka, please transmit all these informations to Yehusha in order to confirm these elemnts to Pete. I know that he is waiting for this ASAP. He asked me two days ago to find Olga Habib in Paris and wanted to obtain addresses and phone numbers that he could found hereafter.

Pete, thank you very much once again of your prompt answer. This will be a such surpise for him. Note also that they have a huge family in New York and Canada.

Faithfully yours.

I have just talked to my father in law and I am able to confirm you these elements.
The initial family name of Paula was DROSMAN. She was the sister of Benjamin Drosman who buried in Paris, cimetiere Bagneux le Parisien under the name of Benjamin DORESMAN ( mistake in the spelling from the French administration).
Hoping that this one will help you.
Faithfully yours,

Lea.

250. “Photograph.”
A photograph (attached to this record) was found among Helen and Sids Photo on Jul 10, 2020. The were three names on it followed by 1954. The first name was cut off. 2nd name was Sid Garfinkel and the 3rd was “Ben Sable”. Shelley and I don’t know him but he looks to me like the photograph I have of the spouse of Ruchel Walter. We know that Ruchel’s spouses first name was Ben but not his last name. Later on Shelley said this cannot be her “Uncle Ben”.
