GARFINKEL Y- Haplogroup
A Y-DNA67 test was conducted by Family Tree DNA to determine the Haplogroup carried down from Lejb Garfinkel, who most likely was born in Galicia around 1830-1840. The haplogroup was determined to be G-M201, which falls under G-U1. The 67 STR (short tandem repeat) markers that were identified show an unusual DYS392=12 cluster (meaning the DNA Y-chromosome Segment at location 392 has 12 repeats) which falls under G-L-1264. Men within this haplogroup with the unusual DYS392=12 value are the closest genetic cousins, some (but not all) of which are of Jewish ancestry. They originated in northwestern Caucasus (from the known origins of L-1264) and later somehow made their way to Western Europe.
